Our day yesterday was another adventure! Stewart has been a little under the weather so we got a later start, and headed across the Charles Bridge to Petrin Hill. Before hitting the hill, we stopped at another (great) restaurant called Restaurant Carmelita—amazing risotto with lamb ragu, and penne arra’biata. The penne was not spicy enough for Stewart, so he insisted on asking for additional red pepper flakes—came to find out, this move was a bit overzealous. He was unable to speak for a good 5 minutes, and ate a large portion of my meal to cool off the flames. Yikes! Few pics of early afternoon:
I had read about Petrin Hill from my Lonely Planet book, and thought it would be something fun to check out. The book refers to it as a “cheesey tourist attraction.”
When a travel guide uses the word cheesy, you know its bad. But the views were really all I wanted to see:
A little side story: on our way up, we had to buy a ticket for a tram to take us to the very top. As stewart likes to say, this story is a great example of why he thinks my helmet fused with my head as a child, resulting in me being permanently hard headed. The ticket says you MUST get it validated before reaching the top. I didn’t see anyone doing this, so thought I was in the clear. Stewart did not agree with my train of thought, and actually followed the rules. Well, when we got to the top there were men checking our tickets for validation….little did I know, my lack of judgement would result in having the cops called, and a fine of 700 czk. Oh, and my ID taken. I thought I was about to be thrown in the back of a cop car and hauled off, just because of a stupid validation!!! I paid the fine, and was let loose, but what a start to an afternoon!
Petrin Hill ended up being beautiful, and had a million gorgeous gardens that were perfect for photo oops! (another hot dog was just passed across the aisle—laughing uncontrollably).

We made it to the bottom and headed over to Kampa Island, a little island near the Charles Bridge. (SC Comment: The woman just requested another half link of hot dog…for those of you counting at home, that’s 30 inches of processed meat).
Being the trendy New Yorker that he is, Stewart wanted last night’s activities to start a little later than usual. We were going head over to Wenceslas Square, a part of Prague we had yet to visit, and get some drinks and a late dinner. He kind of thought we might hit a different crowd if we aim for a 10PM dinner. Well, we didn't time things right. After getting a drink at “The Beer Factory” around 9, we headed to the restaurant we wanted to go to all day. 10PM and it was closed. Next attempt…closed. So we ended up finding a place called Kobe and enjoyed a great, AND late last dinner in Prague! It was well worth the trouble.
Looking forward to our stay in Vienna. Will be very short, but fun-filled! Update soon.
Um, coordinating outfits and sunglasses...you guys are gross
ReplyDeleteI used to spend alot of time on that hill back when we would spend weekends in Praha when I lived in Warsaw! As cheesy as it is, it is a great place to go and relax over looking the city. I loved Praha, but you will certainly see your fair share of tourists anywhere you go!
ReplyDeleteHave fun in Vienna, I hope you have a high credit limit.
